Students work together with an academic advisor.

We at Humber know how challenging it can be to start a new life in a new place. Some of you might even be coming from other provinces or countries. To make your life easier and help you through this transition, we have made a list of resources for when you feel homesick or would just like to get involved in campus life. We understand this can be a tough time, but you can make the most of it with the right help. You can have fun while studying and meet people who could become friends for life.

First Year Experience (FYE)

FYE is a mentoring program for all first year students, to give you a fantastic and successful start to your journey.

Did your best friend go to another college? No worries! Through this program we will pair you up with a Humber Peer Mentor, an upper year student in a similar course to yours. They've been there and done that, so they'll be able to help you with the college transition academically and socially. All you have to do is fill out a form and they'll get back to you. So simple! Find the form here.

We also offer great workshops specially designed for first year students. You can attend all six workshops or pick the ones you like. The workshops aim to introduce you to the campus, student life, career success, wellness and much more. Find out more about the workshops here.

Talk to a Professional

When you are getting overwhelmed with college life, challenges or feeling homesick, and you'd like to talk to an expert about how to deal, or simply need some help to cope with stress, don't feel alone. We have great counselling services on campus where you can get support and professional advice. Find out more about our counselling services here.

Academic Advising

Grades! Grades! Grades! We all know they're an important part of college, along with the development of the skills, knowledge and experience you need to succeed in your career. Try to organize your time, develop strong study habits and seek help when you need it. Talk to our advisors for tips and strategies for success. They can also help with your goal planning throughout your school year. Find more about academic advising here.
